Asian-Black Relations

ORIENT, an outgrowth of my site huggingasians.com, is in development and getting support. CounterPULSE, Oakland Asian Cultural Center and Eth-Noh-Tec are supporting the work alongside poets like Brenda Hillman, Truong Tran, Matthew Shenoda, LaTasha Nevada Diggs, Ellen Bass, Evie Shockley, Singaporean poet Alvin Pang and Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown. We're still raising funds and would appreciate any help. $35 and over gets a DVD or CD of the premieres but we'll take whatever amount you can afford!!!

UniVerse of Poetry

The Pulitzer Center commissioned me to set the poetry of Kwame Dawes. Kwame and I have worked together on numerous projects. HOPE focuses on HIV/AIDS in Jamaica. You can visit livehopelove.com AND UniVerse of Poetry to read the poems, hear the music and see the astounding work of photographer Joshua Cogan.

Sarah Jones

If you don't know Sarah Jones, then you don't know one of the foremost performers of our time. Her work is poetry and the most incredibly empathetic renderings of how much we are all ALIKE. In this, the Obama Dispensation:), I'm doing more work on my interior. I will--I must--work so that people see themselves in every other person walking down the street.

Jack Straw Writers Program

I'm a 2009 Jack Straw Writers Fellow and it's exciting. I adore having to fly up to Seattle every couple months to experience and experiment with & sound.

There are 12 writers in the program with such different, clarion voices. More to come...

Ulysses Dove

What can I do to spread the name and work of one of America's greatest choreographers? You need his work. I promise.

To Be Left with the Body Reading 10/23 @ 6:30pm

I'll be reading with Marvin K. White and Jewelle Gomez at Good Vibrations (1620 Polk Street). The anthology reminds us that black bi/gay men and HIV/AIDS is an ongoing and gnarled reality.
